One step at a time.

An authentic and genuine life grows like a sturdy tree. And like a tree, it grows slowly. Every time you make a different and better decision, it grows a little. Every time you choose to do the right thing, even when nobody would find out otherwise, it grows a little. Every time you act with compassion, relinquish your right to strike back, take a courageous stand, admit fault or accept responsibility, it grows a little.

One of the biggest lessons that I’ve learned this year is that it is important to focus on the little things. Small changes. Every day, day after day, you need to see that you’re making a difference, even in the smallest of ways. Sometimes that’s all that you have to hold onto.

I’m taking the rest of this year slowly. Day by day, one step at a time. That’s what I’m doing for my self care. That’s what I’m doing to look after my mental-health, and to just keep going.

  1. This is something I am also working on. I focus a lot on what I am not doing and how slow it’s taking to get to a specific place, whether that be mentally, physically or emotionally. I realized how impatient that is and how unhealthy it is for me. Taking it one day at a time, staying in the days moment and choosing to let tomorrow worry about itself, understanding that self-growth is a process that requires a lot of patience. I am giving myself the time I need to breathe without the heavy hand of self-judgment. Thank you for this.

    1. I wish that I knew you in real life. I feel like w’ed be really great friends. You’re such a good support system to have and we don’t even know each other. I can’t imagine how lucky the people who really do know you are. Those are some blessed people.

      1. V, you’re about to make me cry! ❀ I'm so glad I can be here for you and I so wish I knew you in real life as well. I think we would be great friends too! I'm terrible at making friends, but it feels so easy to talk to you and I respect you so much for your honesty and perspective in life. I think those around you are truly blessed as well! πŸ™‚ Thank you for being so kind!
