Please be kind. It’s a general rule for life, yes. But I find this time of year everyone seems to be stressed out and some people really don’t handle it well while in public. This is just a reminder that, instead of losing your cool on the poor cashier who didn’t cause the issue and can’t solve the issue, just be kind. Don’t yell at the Post Office Attendant because everyone in the world wants to mail something at the same time as you. Don’t walk out of the restaurant without tipping your waiter/waitress just because the kitchen was slow. That’s not your servers fault, everyone eats out this time of year. Also, please, please, please don’t harass, belittle or mistreat the gate attendants if you’re travelling. Hundreds of thousands, if not millions, are all trying to get somewhere for the holidays and they’re only trying to help. They cannot control plane maintenance, weather, where you’re sitting or where your bags end up. So please remember that when you embark on your travels.
Please be kind.
Practice patience. Be kind. Leave yourself a little extra time to get things done and the busy stores, restaurants and post offices won’t seem like as much of a hassle.
And, as a general rule of thumb, whenever you get the urge to be an asshole, stop yourself.
I own a shit that says “Everyone is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind.”

I am envious of your beautiful snow! That picture is breath-taking.
I tend to repeat these things to myself anytime I am in public because my anxiety can get the best of me if I am not careful…
1. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
2. Always do the right thing especially when nobody is watching.
3. Never leave the house or go to bed without saying “I love you” to your loved ones.
4. Smile

Whenever I see this happen and I’m next in line, I always try to let the person know they’re doing a good job and the last customer was a dolt. It usually seems to lift them up a little.

Absolutely. I bet it helps them from being upset. Or at least lessens the blow. People genuinely get abused this time of year, solely doe doing their job. It sucks. I actually told a woman to stop acting like a grouchy asshole today at the post office. She grunted and stomped away. People need to be a lot nicer…

Sometimes I definitely need to take this advice. Thanks for the kind reminder! I can get passive as aggressive sometimes

Preach!!! As someone who works in the service industry, I can’t even begin to tell you how nasty some people can be. This really is an important message, and I hope everyone thinks to be a little kinder to others this Holiday season. Thanks for sharing love ❤️

Honestly, as someone who works in the service industry, you’re the real champ this time of year. The behaviour that I’ve seen the past couple of days, I just don’t know how you can deal with it and not go home and cry your eyes out at night. Or perhaps you do. Some people are incredibly mean and it’s so uncalled for an inexcusable. They use workers as punching bags for their own stresses.

Thank you!!! And please , please, please be especially kind to gate agents when traveling! They truly work hard & are put under so much stress. Thank you ❤

Oh yes, this is an important one too. I’m going to add this point into my post as well, if you don’t mind… I see a lot of nasty people in the airport this time of yer.

Like this times 100! You have no clue what is going on with that person at that time. Maybe his mom is sick or she’s trying to figure out how to get just a little something for her kids or maybe there have been a few rude, obnoxious customers already.
And yes, please tip your server. Maybe even extra. I’ve never worked in the food industry but I see what goes on. I frequent a sports bar, which I like to call my Watering Hole, and I only drink water. And I may not have any food. But the server always gets paid because as long as I’m taking up that space she can’t make any more money off it. I call it rent.
In fact, be kind year-round. Everything will be so much better. Thanks for the reminder.

My sister-in-law works as a server and she tells me that Friday’s and Saturday’s people are notorious for leaving no tip, or leaving like 50cent tips. When I asked her why she thinks it’s Friday and Saturdays she said it’s because their restaurant is always packed on Friday’s and Saturday’s so it takes longer for people to get their food and they don’t like that. I was like ‘Damn, that probably happens at a lot of restaurants! And it probably happens a lot more during the holidays when people are planning Christmas parties and special dinners and so on and so forth…

Everyone has the power to be kind or to be an asshole, it’s a choice really. I find mindfulness has really helped me to check in and find out instead…oh…there’s a pissed off thought…oh…I feel annoyed. And then just letting the wave of emotion wash over me and it;’s gone instead of taking it out on other people. I can also since doing meditation see it in other people – that agony of being in a pissed off mood, suddenly I feel compassion for them. At least, some of the time but I’m still prone to getting pissed off like anyone LOL, I guess if you at least try your best, if everyone tries their best to be kind, it all works, society works better. Namaste, a peaceful and happy Christmas to you xx

That’s such a good way to be. Just let it wash past you and move onto the next. Life’s far too short to take out frustrations on people who don’t deserve it.

Love the picture! Please share more soothing snow pics! Great article, people really need to read this and take the advice. Everyone seems to take the long lines and stress of the holidays as a personal affront and the truth is we’re all stressed, we’re all in line. Be patient and plan to wait!

So true! We’re all stressed. And it only gets worse when people start harassing other’s in public. Be patient and plan to wait is a good rule of thumb for this time of year.

I think of the police officers around Christmas time.
My best friend has a brother who is a retired cop. He says that Christmas Day is the worst and busiest with calls. All kinds of violence, domestic and other wise.
They never know what to expect when approaching the door of the house.

Oh, I hadn’t even thought of that. It must be really hard to be a police officer this time of year.

Ok. And I hope all of those annoying people who stand up and block the aisle on the plane and end up waiting like the rest of us are listening. This time of year I tend to do everything very early in the morning because all of the rudeness makes me want to be an ass to those being rude. I love the festive vibe of the holidays, but hate how people behave. This just made me angry reading it, lol

Oh, hopefully you weren’t too angry after getting that out.
People who try to run off planes, I don’t get it. Like… I’ve been there… when your connecting flight leaves in a half hour at the other end of the airport, but that being said, that doesn’t mean they’re going to open the plane door any faster.
I tend to go out and do things late at night. Stores are open until 10 around here this month, so I go out around 8 pm and it’s a lot easier to deal with.

That is a fabulous photo – And – shouldn’t we try to be kind ALL the time? I’m a pretty grumpy, nit-picky old witch but I save my ire for those who raised it, I don’t take it out on innocent bystanders. Sometimes just a smile goes a long way to making someone’s day better.

We should be kind all of the time, yes. I think I just said this one for now because so many people get so stressed this time of year and start taking it out on others! Sometimes a smile can go a long way, you’re absolutely right.
