As I rant/ramble on… (warning: expletives ahead)

I’m not really sure where this image originated, it seems to be making its way around the internet so I don’t know who to credit. Sorry!

First and foremost, something I’ve posted to social media but not to WordPress, The Australian Red Cross is accepting donations from around the world. If you would like to donate to help those affected by the devastation of the ongoing wildfires in Australia, please click here.

If you do not have the means to donate, I would strongly encourage anyone who reads this to inform themselves as to what is happening in Australia and the reactions (or lack thereof) the Australian government has had. Australia has one of the most, if not the most, unique and diverse ecosystems on earth with hundreds of species who call it home that exist nowhere else on earth. Everyone should be aware of what is happening, what has been lost and what is at stake.

If you’re in Australia and have been affected by these fires, or not, my heart goes out to you. I come from an area of Canada that deals with forest fires annually and I know the heart-wrenching horrors that is watching the world burn up around you… and we don’t even have Koalas to worry about.

Okay, so where to start…

The house is quiet, for a few minutes at least. Insert casual Vee.

It is the first week of the new year (and new decade) and everyone who lives in my house has been sick. Really fucking sick. I’ve been taking them to the hospital to get IVs because they’re just that sick. It has made for a lot of long days and even longer nights. Let me tell you this – cleaning up someone else’s puke is no joke. I’ve always had a respect for doctors and nurses, but when I go through week’s like this week has been, I respect them so much more.

Today, I decided that I needed to do something for myself, so I went for a massage. I told the masseuse, a woman, that I was there to get the knots worked out of my lower back. (I’ve been dealing with some serious tension in my lower back as of late and I thought a massage might help) Her response? Lathering her hands in fucking oil and then running them through my hair. Did I want a head massage? No. Did she try to persist after I told her to stop? Abso-fucking-lutely. There aren’t a lot of things in this world that make me really, truly angry… but when I have clean hair you best not fuck that up.

I was relaxed up until that point. Actual smoke started spewing from my orifices. We had a very frank discussion about what it means to listen to a customer when they make a request of you and my angry voice came out. My angry voice RARELY comes out…

Sadly, that wasn’t the only time the angry voice came out today.

I decided that it would be smart to carry my open laptop, a glass of water and a plate of dinner downstairs at one time. Yeah, that didn’t end well for me. Thank goodness I have one of the most indestructible computers of all time, but I had some very choice words for myself after that happened.

‘You’re such a fucking idiot.’

‘This is why you can’t have nice things.’

I really hope that I’m not the only person in the world to yell at myself when I do stupid things. Also, there’s really no saving your dinner when the dogs run over to start licking food off the floor at the bottom of the stairs. So… protein bars it is?

Today’s score is: World – 2, Vee – 0.

In other news, I don’t think I’ve ever done this, but here’s a song that I really love:

This band is a favourite of mine. I’ve never heard a song of their’s I didn’t like. They’re a Canadian band and they actually had a song (Knocking at the Door) become a bit of a sport anthem in the past couple of years. It was used for the NHL playoffs, NBA Finals, the Super Bowl, the World Series, the World Cup, the Olympics, and so on and so forth. They’re not so much Indie anymore, but I still love them dearly and have fond memories of their incredible shows in dark, dingy pubs across this country.

Also, here’s a book that I really love:

If you’ve ever felt like you just don’t fit anywhere in this world, like you’re misunderstood and you’d be better off on your own, away from every one and every thing dragging you down, this book is for you. I’ve read this book probably… 30 times at this point. Each time I read it I get something new from it.

Alright, I think that’s all for now. I can hear my name being called from upstairs…

Make smart choices.

Bye.

  1. Hilarious post, Vee (the part AFTER the forest fires). There is nothing hilarious about rampant fires in Australia.

Masseuse: a word I did not know existed until now. I love how it sounds in my head and Iโ€™m not gonna even bother googling the pronunciation because it has a sexy ring to it in my mind.๐Ÿ‘Œ

I curse a lot whenever I screw something up or something doesnโ€™t go my way. Like today, coffee splashed all over the coffee table as soon as I set my mug down. My reaction? Dropping a few F-bombs! ๐Ÿ˜

      1. I think you spelled it right. My vocabulary sucks and it looks like fancy terminology to me. I can never seem to pronounce these words right.

I like the word, masseuse. Yenno how some words look luxurious or maybe Iโ€™m just weird for thinking that? Well, itโ€™s definitely one of those words. Like tourtiere or any other French word for that matter.

  2. We have been praying for Australia – individually as well as in our group meditations. God willing all shall be well ๐Ÿ™
Incidentally all of us were sick too a little before and after the new year. My daughter in law gets very frustrated as my son doesnโ€™t take any medication, like me ๐Ÿ˜‚
All are well and kicking now ๐Ÿ˜‡
And you know the only person we have a right to shout at – is our own self ๐Ÿ˜Š
Have an uplifting and joyous 2020.
May you find your vocation as well as a job ๐Ÿค—

    1. Ohhhhhhhh you, your son and my family would be good friends. Even when they go to the hospital, get an IV and the doctor prescribes them antibiotics, they won’t take them. I probably could’ve had three healthy family members by now but they’re determined to wait out the storm!

Nevertheless, I am very glad you’re feeling better! I never like seeing anyone sick.

  3. Oh my god V – you have me laughing out loud in a silent household. Not the Oz bit which is tragic and very sad. But the masseuse and laptop components? Priceless. Please keep ranting … for ever. ๐Ÿ˜Žโค๏ธx

  4. Well said about the bush fires and the completely lacklustre efforts being put forth by the Aussie Government. I was lucky enough to live there for a year and you’re totally right, it’s completely unique and a continent to itself effectively. If half of Europe was on fire, I’d expect a much more organised and collective approach from the Western world. I saw a map on another post which shows the region covered in fire is effectively the same (or almost the same) area as Great Britain. People here probably can’t even fathom the scale of this until they think of it this way. I bet they cannot imagine our entire country ablaze.

Also, sorry you’ve had to be nurse when feeling unwell yourself. Always here for you and will support you any way that I can.

    1. I’m disappointed over the Australian government’s denial of the crisis that is. I saw a photo of a burned up kangaroo last night and it quite literally broke my heart.

  5. You are 100% not alone at the yelling at yourself when things go wrong. I do this routinely and itโ€™s good to know itโ€™s not just me! Itโ€™s great that your using this post to raise awareness about the bush fires and also sharing some things that you love at the end of the post to end on a positive! Hope things are going better for you now!

  6. Vee, a doctor that my best friend sees had a trip to Disney over the holidays had to cancel it because the whole family became sick with the flu that is going around.
About the wildfires, my heart breaks watching the destruction that is happening with those fires. All I can do is pray for them.

    1. I think it’s important to understand that the carbon emissions from a fire this size will have worldwide ramifications. Our trees here in Canada will be needed to help clean the air from a fire in Australia. It sounds crazy but it’s true.

  7. Hope the family is feeling better, I’m at the tail end of the flu myself. So gross
    Great post V
Fun song too, thanks for sharing ๐Ÿ™‚ Into the wild is fantastic, I told Jase the other day I’m ready to move into a tee pee away from society…โ€ฆ..

    1. I think it would be so calm and peaceful, just moving away from it all and leaving the world behind. Perhaps that’s just me glorifying it though. I’d come with you if you ever got that teepee.

  8. I was sick for my entire 2 weeks of vacation from my job and so was my husband so I sympathize with the sickness never-ending. I really like the song you posted and it is now in my favorites ๐Ÿ™‚ And I yell at myself all the time. If it will make you laugh, a few months ago my 4 year old nephew was trying to put toys away and a whole stack fell over. He turned to me and said in a very serious little voice “Well that happened.” I almost peed myself laughing because his mom says this all the time ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. If I saw that come from a four year old’s mouth I probably would’ve given them a high five and put their face on a trophy. That kid’s gonna grow up to be one sarcastic and incredible human being.

  9. Yes, the bushfires are horrendous. Lately, we have been given to understand that 200 of those fires were started either deliberately or accidentally by people. 200!! Does someone have an agenda, we wonder?

    1. British Columbia is an area of Canada that battles forest fires every summer and they say, every summer, despite all the warnings on tv, radio, news, etc… that people still manage to start these massive fires by tossing lit cigarettes out their windows whilst driving.

People really need to be more aware of the decisions they’re making. It’s heartbreaking to think something like this could be human caused.

  10. The wildlife agencies are all under the pump. Arguing about how the fires started will not fix the problems caused by the destruction of property, bush land and the loss of farm animals and wildlife. For example One of the organisations Animals Australia is doing superb work by arranging for airlifts of supplies to areas cut off by road https://animalsaustralia.org Then there is the Adelaide Koala Rescue organisation which has set up a temporary koala hospital in a local school hall because there are so many injured wildlife http://www.akr.org.au/our-story

  11. I feel so bad for everyone in Australia (with their wildfires) and Puerto Rico (they’re having massive earthquakes). Everyone is suffering so badly at this time. I really hope that all this mass disaster stops!
