Edibles are not that good.

One of the reasons that I’ve never gotten into weed is because the smell is a real turnoff for me. I can’t get passed it. I liken the way I feel about the smell of weed to the way the majority of the earth feels about the smell of skunk spray. That’s how much it gets to me.

Edibles, they get you with edibles. There’s this promise of having the incredible after-effect of THC/CBD, without the weed taste or smell. All they really seem to do with edibles is mask it with the smell and taste of a different strong ingredient. (Such as pieces of candy cane) The problem is, that underlying taste and smell is still there. If you bite into it, you’re going to get hit with that candy cane first, but that underlying taste of weed is there. And it’s strong. And it lingers in your mouth/throat for HOURS after the fact. That’s the hard part. I could probably deal with the disgusting taste in one bite if that’s all it was, but that taste lasts.

It seems like a lot of inconvenience for a very small amount of benefit. I’m just not a weed person, I guess. I don’t understand why people like them.

Disclaimer: Weed is legal here. It’s about as easy to get as a bottle of wine. These opinions of mine are not intended to promote, or obstruct, any opinions people might have of weed. Follow the law where you live.

  1. I hear you about the edibles and after taste. I have found if I pop in mouth chew once and then have hot drink of coffee/tea it melts goes down easy and you only taste coffee or tea. I have friends who make and they are strong. So much so that I have been known to gag so I discovered a way that helped me. 🙂

    1. I haven’t tried any hot drinks. If I ever take one, it’s usually at night before sleep. So, I’ll have to try that, but with something that isn’t caffeinated.

    1. Drink alcohol? Or drink CBD/THC drinks? I’m a rare drinker of alcohol. I’ll drink at special occasions, or have wine at home if I’m in a particularly awful mood. I maybe only drink a handful of times a year.

I don’t mind the CBD/THC drinks, but they’re all so mild.

  2. Uh-oh…this might make me sound even weirder, but I like the smell of both weed *and* skunk!
That said, I’m not a huge user of cannabis, but I’m trying. Right now, I’m looking for the right mix/balance of weed and booze…just to keep me from drinking too much. I guess I’m lucky that I don’t need it for pain management.

  3. It does nothing for me either. Tried it for sleep, for pain…nothing. I did get a lotion which is quite strong and it takes the edge off, but like you say, the smell and also no matter how hard I try, it gets on my hands, I touch my face…burning mouth disease..ugg.

    1. It’s a really common thing to use for sleeping from what I hear. I’m with you – it doesn’t affect me like that. It just doesn’t work. I don’t get the hype.

      1. Make butter, use butter to make food. The attraction to fat by THC is strong, and after ingesting marijuana, and the body processes the drug, the metabolite generated adheres to the fat cells lining mAh cock, for weeks!
When the butter turns a dark green you kno its done; strain the butter through a silk screen, and enjoy!
…or you can skip that last step¿

  4. I always was tempted to take some for my anxiety, but I feel the same as you. I just can’t get past the smell and if I can’t stand the smell, I won’t be able to stand the taste. Nothing wrong with it, I’ve seen many kids I work with that have seizures benefit from it, but its just not for me 🙂

    1. No amount of weed consumed in one sitting has ever actually helped with my anxiety. I know people say it does, but I’ve never found that to be the case. No matter how strong, or weak, it might be. If it helps people, great. But, it really doesn’t help me. #LostCause

  5. I don’t mind the smell or taste, but it knocks me out. I don’t even have to smoke it, just being in the room and I’m gone. I’ve thought about using it for pain relief and help sleeping through the night.

    1. Ahhh the sleep effect is what I’m looking for! When you say it knocks you out, like makes you sleep? Or do you actually have an adverse fainting reaction?

      1. No adverse reaction, just makes me sleep. Last time I was at a party and a joint was being passed around it just went past me a couple times and I was nodding off. Now this was nearly 50 years ago so it is probably a whole different drug now.

  6. I don’t smoke, so I would never smoke weed. Having smelt weed in high school (when girls used to smoke it in the bathrooms), I hate the smell and liken it to that of cat piss. I tried an edible a grand total of ONCE in my life while in Amsterdam, and I tripped out for HOURS which scared the shit out of me. Never having edibles or any sort of that type of drug again; I can’t see how people actually like and can handle that stuff!

    1. It’s definitely not for everyone. Sounds a little bit like you’re also a lightweight, which means you wouldn’t enjoy its effects even if it didn’t stink. It does stink, but yeah, I know what you mean! haha
